Men’s Life Transitions Toolkit - Worksheets, Prompts & Guides

By Donna Burfield - Joy & Purpose Coaching

This guide is designed to help you reconnect with the part of you that knows how to handle life, the part that’s carried you through challenges, change, and everything in between.

Confidence, over 50, doesn’t need to look loud. Often it’s about familiarity, truth, and small, steady steps.

Take your time and move through each section at your own pace.

Step 1 - Remembering What You’ve Come Through

You’ve already handled more than most people realise. Let’s bring some of that strength back into focus.

List 5 challenges you’ve handled in your life: (These can be personal, health-related, work-related, family-related, anything that required resilience.)

What qualities did I use during those challenges? (e.g., determination, humour, patience, courage, responsibility, loyalty, resourcefulness)

Which of these qualities are still part of me today?

Step 2 - Naming Your Wins

Not all wins are big, dramatic moments. Many of them are quiet, steady choices that reveal who you really are.

  • When did I deal with something I wasn’t ready for, but did it anyway?

  • When have I helped someone else recently, even in a small way?

  • When did I choose rest, honesty, or boundaries, even when it felt uncomfortable?

These are all signs of strength, even if they don’t feel like it in the moment.

Step 3 - One Step at a Time

Confidence returns through action, but in small, manageable actions.

Which area of my life needs a confidence boost right now? (e.g., work, social life, health, motivation, relationships, getting back out there)

What tiny step could I take this week? (One that feels realistic, doable, and gentle, not overwhelming.)

Examples:

  • Send one message

  • Go for one walk

  • Apply for one thing

  • Try one class

  • Say yes (or no) once

  • Fix one small frustration

My step will be:

What might get in the way, and how can I support myself? (e.g., fatigue, low motivation, fear of judgement, overthinking)
